About Debbie
Debbie Hornibrook is an award-winning Northwest artist and most often works in watercolor, colored pencil and ink. Her mother shared her love of roses with her at a young age, and both her parents encouraged her creative drive and her connection to animals. Her love of nature was inspired by childhood picnics to mountain streams and woodlands, and a family farm life than included horses, chickens, dogs, and cats as well as a few frogs and gerbils. Debbie now strives to capture the inspirational beauty she finds all around her. Debbie experiences painting as a spiritual practice that restores her soul and helps her develop connections with other people. She believes that perhaps our greatest power is in choosing the direction of our mental focus. While painting and creating, she finds herself immersed in the practice of close observation and appreciation and becomes lost in the “flow” of being deeply engaged with her subject, her process, and her friends. She feels restored and at peace after taking time to appreciate the patterns, colors, and connects involved in art-making. Debbie has been juried into the Watercolor Society of Oregon and the Oregon Society of Artists, and is a member of the Keizer Art Association. She has served on the board and is an active member of the Wild Over Watercolor Watercolor group. It’s not what you look at that matters, it’s what you see. -Henry David Thoreau She hopes her paintings inspire feelings of pleasure and peacefulness, and are a reminder of what can be seen when we slow down and really take in what the Universe has to offer.
